I should stop for a moment and throw out a welcome “Hello” to all those creative people stopping by from Coudal.com in the last few days. So hello!
If you don’t remember, I did a review of their site after discovering it purely by accident and loving every thing I found there. It was really an exciting site. I hope I find something cool by accident soon to keep up the trend.
You can see the review by clicking on “Reviews” under categories on the right hand side.

The other day I got it in my head that I wanted to paint an airship. I don’t know why, I’ve never drawn anything even resembling an airship. I painted a pirate once. That’s about as close as I’ve come.
Well, one airship turned into a full spread of my journal (2 pages) of an airship heading toward a glowing moon in an inky black space. Loved it so much. I ended up painting everything but the airship, which I drew with a Sakura Micron pen (size 2). I’m really impressed with myself on this one and I decided I need to do more full spread pieces.
I am inspired by the idea of Victorian mechanics, all sorts of steam punk stuff, and airships. Which is probably why I fell in love with the cover of the first FLIGHT comic graphic novel.

Tuesday I hit the Scooters coffee shop on the way to work and the new barista had the most awesome cartoon face ever. I don’t know what it was exactly, but I just liked the shape of his person.
So I painted him. Inspiration comes from everywhere. I ordered a caramel dolche muffin and almond skinny steamer.
A Poet to His Beloved
I bring you with reverent hands The books of my numberless dreams White woman that passion has worn As the tide wear the dove-grey sands, And with heart more old than the horn This is brimmed from the pale fire of time: White woman with numberless dreams, I bring you my passinate rhyme.

Grr, crappy scan.

The scan wasn’t as good as I’d hoped and I couldn’t get it cleaned up. Some shadowy color around the edges. I think the scan problems come from the shape of the journal making it hard to scan.

New Header

So I finally made a new header for this here blog. I like the way the drawing turned out, although I spent a good 45 minutes on the left hand alone because I couldn’t seem to get the proportions and angles right. It kept coming out wonky and at one point my brain was so fried from drawing and erasing the same inch of paper that I started drawing the thumb on the wrong side of the hand. Whoops.
The pirate ship came out better than I anticipated considering I had not really ever drawn a pirate ship. Look, little hands wizarding out a story. That’s me! Well, a decidedly characterized cartoonish me (with smaller breasts).
Do I like the little tag line? I’m not sure. I do but like the left hand, I rewrote this for an hour and a half last night. I was up until a little after 2am working on it. I rewrote it so many times I couldn’t even recognize the words anymore. How about some feedback? What do you think?
